Upper Extremity and Functional Analysis Unit

Upper extremity movements play a critical role in all aspects of life, including daily, work-related, and productive activities, as well as sports and artistic endeavors. In tasks such as writing, using a computer, and operating office equipment, the use of the upper extremity is a key element in translating abstract ideas into tangible results. Objectively evaluating the performance and quality of movements involving the hand, arm, shoulder, and upper torso is a significant step toward preventing injuries, minimizing productivity loss, and enhancing performance after injuries or illnesses.

The three-dimensional analysis and evaluation of movements captured by specialized camera systems are currently regarded as one of the most robust objective methods.

The center aims to:

Facilitate and accelerate the process of returning to work.
Enhance performance in sports that emphasize arm functions.
Prevent injuries in professions involving repetitive upper extremity movements, such as musicianship.
Enable the functional use of the hand in daily life for individuals with disabilities.
Improve arm performance across all age groups.

The primary goal for individuals of all ages and professions is to ensure functionality. Data obtained from functional and upper extremity-focused analyses will pave the way for designing patented products that simplify daily life. Establishing standards for numerous activities that have not been analyzed on a national or international scale highlights the innovative aspect of this unit.

The design of specialized assessment tools and the development of innovative analysis methods for various grasping and performance patterns will contribute to national and international collaborations between universities and industries.
